I want to be able to make any sort of music and release it whenever I want to …
Gustaf Westin
My name is Gustaf Westin and I am one out of many who wants to create music. Some people say that it has never been easier to get your music out there and yes, that’s a statement that is true. Anyone can put their music on Soundcloud or Spotify. But the problem is that (this is not facts I have a source for) some say that 40 000 songs are released every day. If I release a song once per month, how big of a chance is it then that someone will actually listen to it? This is a challenge that I’ve accepted by setting up my own label. I will try to get my music in front of an audience that wants to listen to it. How? I don’t know but I’ve read a tutorial about how you’re supposed to do it (LOL).
Unveiling the Melodies Within
Who am I? I’m a musician and artist hailing from the quaint town of Bollebygd, nestled near Gothenburg and Borås. You might have known me by my previous moniker (but most likely not), Airborne Angel, during my trance music days, but the evolution of my musical identity has taken a fascinating turn.
My love affair with music began at an early age. Growing up in a town that whispered with inspiration, I yearned to play the guitar. Gifted my first six-string at the tender age of eight, I embarked on a musical journey that would shape my artistic destiny. Despite my initial attempts to join the music school queue, fate led me to a different path—one paved with beats and rhythms.
At twelve, a Casio CA-100 keyboard became my muse. Although melody-making eluded me, I found solace in crafting beats using a tracker software named Modplug Tracker. The spark ignited when, in seventh grade, I joined forces with classmates to form a band. Our musical endeavors were humble, and I, with bass in hand, discovered the world of electric instruments during a memorable summer break.
The following year ushered in a new chapter as our band evolved, shifting towards the heavy tones of metal, inspired by the iconic In Flames. As our paths diverged post-ninth grade, I bid farewell to the bass, opting for a Yamaha synth and Cubase software to delve deeper into the realm of trance music. For over 15 years, I honed my skills, releasing tracks on prominent labels, yet the yearning for something more lingered.
The turning point arrived when the chords of my guitar called me back. Infusing new life into my music, I dedicated countless hours to refining my guitar-playing prowess—exploring scales, mastering chords, and rediscovering the joy of songwriting. Lyrics and melodies flowed effortlessly, and a renewed passion for composition took hold. It wasn’t about perfection; it was about the genuine expression of musical ideas.
Now, as Gustaf Westin, I find myself at the crossroads of past and present. Trance echoes in the background, a testament to my roots, while the guitar takes center stage in a symphony of self-discovery. Join me on this sonic adventure as I weave together the threads of electronic and acoustic realms, creating music that resonates with the very essence of who I am.
